Fab, or antigen-binding fragment, constitutes the core functional domain of an antibody responsible for specific antigen recognition and binding. It is composed of one complete light chain and one heavy chain fragment, covalently linked by interchain disulfide bonds. With a molecular weight of approximately 47–48 kDa, the Fab fragment is roughly one‑third the size of a full‑length IgG antibody and is commonly obtained via phage display antibody library screening. Compared to intact IgG, Fab fragments lack the Fc region, which reduces nonspecific immunogenicity, and their smaller size confers superior tissue penetration capabilities. KMD Bioscience provides customized expression, purification, and functional validation services for Fab fragments, utilizing a range of platforms including phage display, mammalian cell systems, and prokaryotic expression. Our approach ensures the efficient production of Fab fragments with high purity and high bioactivity, supporting antibody drug discovery and in vitro diagnostic development.
