Background	Diphtheria toxoid is produced worldwide in a standard fashion, in the United States, production and testing procedures are specified in the Code of Federal Regulations. Specifically, a strain of C. diphtheriae that is known to produce large amounts of toxin (such as the Park Williams 8 strain) is grown in a liquid medium conducive to toxin production. After appropriate incubation, sterilization is achieved by centrifugation and filtration.
